Rocky Seascape in Alcohol Ink
Meltedtheory
You'll love this beautiful landscape with all the steps.
New rocky seascape painting; created with alcohol inks on Yupo paper. Where does this remind you of? There are so many beautiful rocky coastal areas in the world. Lisa is in New England, so coastal Maine or Newport was probably on her mind. see more of Lisa's work at www.MeltedTheory.com or on Instagram www.instagram.com/meltedtheory/

Lisa Hayden is an abstract artist who works in both acrylics and alcohol inks. Besides colorful abstracts, she really love to paint the ocean. Here is a time-lapse video and a tutorial on how Lisa created a rocky seascape. Lisa enjoy the way the inks work with Yupo paper, but bets this would work with watercolors on normal watercolor paper too!
Materials:
9x12 Yupo paper
Alcohol Blending Solution
3 Blue Alcohol Inks (I used Ranger brand Cloudy Blue, Stonewashed and Denim Blue)
Grey Alcohol Ink (I used Ranger brand Slate)
Black Alcohol Ink
White Alcohol Ink
Natural Sponge
Step 1:
Alcohol inks are fun but messy; you will want to protect your surface. Aluminum foil works well. You'll be tilting your Yupo paper so don't tape it down.

Step 2:
For the sky start by wetting the top 2/3 of the Yupo paper with Alcohol Blending Solution. Then add strips of white ink. Starting at the left side, put Cloudy Blue along the edge of the wet area and start tilting. Add a few strips of the brighter Stonewashed blue as you tilt. Tilt back in the other direction until you have the sky effect you like. Using a good amount of blending medium at the beginning really makes this work well.

Step 3: Outline the rocky shape with black and white and use one of your blues in horizontal streaks to start the water. Use Slate grey to add in the rocks to the black.
Step 4:
Use all three blues to add color and texture variations to the water, using white along the edges where it meets the rocks.
Step 5:
Use your sponge to add texture in places. You can wet the edge of the sponge with blending medium or any of the colors to achieve different effects.

Step 6:
After the inks have dried you can add in more touches of color to the ocean or texture to the rocks. I try to keep a fairly loose, semi-abstract feel.
Final Step:
I used a landscape format 11x14 mat (wider cut than a normal mat). Attach the mat to the painting with linen hanging tape, and it's ready to frame.

Intuitive Mountain Painting
Wilder Than the Wind Creations
This is a fun painting to try for both experienced and beginning alcohol ink painters.
I suggest that the first time around, you follow the video closely.
For your next paintings make some changes: change the colours, change the size of the mountains, place the mountains on either side of the painting, add a small mound instead of the grass.
Mostly have fun, that's what it's meant to be.

Another fun way to play with Alcohol Inks. So many possibilities! Check out the video. Try Simon’s tachniques, and then make it your own. I love what Simon does with the flowers. “If You Are Working On Something That You Really Care About, You Don’t Have To Be Pushed. The Vision Pulls You.” – Steve Jobs
Nothing inspires like a success story. Over the past few years, I've taken some of Kellie Chasse"s online Alcohol Ink Classes. I have always learned and been inspired by her work. We have often written back and forth, so much so that I now consider Kellie an online friend.
I have been wondering about what I should do with my website, my paintings, my writing... I watched Kellie's video last week, and was inspired to keep it up, to do more.
Hope the video helps you, inspires you.

Alcohol Inks On Yupo: Metallics, Stencils
Joggles.com
I've always wanted to try stencils with my paintings. Joggles provides a few different ways of doing this. I especially like the effect of the one pictured above. However, like all videos, this gives you a starting point. Be creative. Use up those stencils you've had hanging around, and get creative. Have fun!

🎈Alcohol Ink Bubbles 🎈
Nancy Jerigan
Beautiful painting! Another fun YouTube video to watch. There are many different ways to do circles and bubbles. I really like the way Nancy does hers. Learn and enjoy!
Click on link below or on the painting to watch.

A note from Nancy! What an inspiration!
The only thing I'd like people to know is... That I'm a legally blind artist. I have limited peripheral vision. I think it's important to let people know not to let anything get in the way of what you love to do.
Thank you for sharing my video with people.
Nancy 😍

My very first online course! (see below) Opened quite a few doors for me . The first time around I follow Kellie's step by step tutorial. Resin Finish for Alcohol Ink Art
Korinne Carpino
One of the best videos on applying art resin to finished Alcohol Ink Art.
Here is the intro from Korine's website, www.korinnecarpinoart.com Korinne offers online courses which look fabulous. As you can see by the video below, she is an awesome presenter.
"Today, I have a surprise for you! Many of my local students have asked if I would teach a course on how to resin artwork. As I don’t have the studio classroom space for this, and it’s an overnight process, I decided to create a video. The technique that I will demonstrate can be used on any type of artwork that is sturdy enough to bear the weight of the resin. In the video, I will demonstrate how to resin a painting mounted on a wood cradled panel. This is the same method I use to resin tiles.
There are many brands of epoxy resin. I prefer Art Resin brand. It is easy to use, has low VOC and low odor, and I like the consistency.
Here’s the supplies I use to resin my artwork:
Resin is a little fussy….the ideal room temperature should be 72-77 degrees. You have 45 minutes of working time with it.
I recommend you practice on a small test piece….not your masterpiece. Once you are comfortable with the resin, then you can give that professional finish to your favorite artwork!"
Korinne is one of eleven the presenters in the Alcohol Ink Art Spring Conference. The Alcohol Ink Art Conference brings you lifetime access to videos and fun activities by the best in the Alcohol Ink Community. There is an early bird special. 🌊Painting an Orca Whale 🌊
in alcohol ink
Jewel Buhay
Another of Jewel's classics. Note how she does background and her orca.
Things to note as you watch...
Things to note as you watch...
- The effortless way of painting the background. Note the way she spreads the ink across the page, something have to remind my students to do. Most people want to splatter the ink around.
- She uses her gloved fingers to help the ink along, and uses a blow dryer to finish off the sky area.
- Intuitive painting(at least that's what I call it), she uses her background pour to draw in the mountains.
- Mountains dark in forefront lighter in the back.
- Alcohol inks used, Aqua and Stonewashed for sky, and Denim for the water. (Ranger Ink)
- Check how easily she paints in the waves.
- Here's Jewel's explanation for her template.... "I made the template by tracing a whale image off my computer screen. I usually don't do tracing or use templates in my art, but when it comes to animals I want to get the anatomy right so it looks realistic. I use clear plastic from packaging such as a lid from pie containers etc."
Other paintings by Jewel...
